An often overlooked item in many homes is the step ladder. While there are plenty of options on the market for purely functional purposes (the kind that tend to be stored away and out of sight), we like to think “why not make it artful and so good looking that you’ll want to keep it out in your living spaces, leading to more use and overall enjoyment?”. That’s why we love the Lucano Step Ladders by Hasegawa.

Designed in Japan, the Lucano Step Ladders pack quite the punch: simple design, quality materials, solid construction with fluid movement and secure and easy everyday use. They are made of lightweight aluminum and come a variety of colors, perfect for complementing any existing kitchen, library, wardrobe closet, or office style and decor. A fun (and very convenient) design element is that they can stand upright on their own, no need to rest or lay them against a wall. You can literally display your ladder in the center of a room as a piece of art … in fact, we highly encourage that!

We’re not the only ones who love the Lucano Step Ladders; this sleek and practical contemporary design has won awards from German Good Design, Japanese Good Design, and Red Dot Awards.

It brings us so much joy to share them with you in our downtown Raleigh store and here in our webshop. Are you ready to love your step ladder and reach those high shelves in style?

About The Artist

Grey Goods Studio, a textile & surface design studio based out of Durham, NC, was launched in early 2017 by fiber artist, Brooke Heuts and her partner, Braedyn Mallard. They both share a love of art + design and making the world a better (and hopefully more beautiful) place. The term Grey Goods refers to fabric in its “loomstate,” or fabric before it has been dyed, marked or finished. The hand designed textiles Brooke creates are inspired by the power and beauty of the first mark on an unmarked surface and preserving this mark-making is a key part of her artistic process. Brooke begins with experimentation and mark-making using various techniques including screen-printing, dyeing, painting and collage. Through a process of layering, adding and subtracting - she creates repetitions and patterns to preserve these marks.

January 2017 First Friday

Join us for the first First Friday of the year with Margaret Eleanor Maloney and her striking works on canvas. Your choice of wine or hot cocoa to toast the artist's first show in Raleigh!

Uncommonly Sane, by Margaret Eleanor Maloney

Friday January 6, 2017

First Friday Reception: 6 to 9pm, on view through January 31
The subjects in this collection are placed on the canvases unassisted from their surroundings as a way to rest in the moment of an otherwise fleeting experience. Moving a paintbrush across a canvas is how Maloney mindfully appreciates singular moments, gestures, or feelings captured in time.
