Body Shapes by Jordan Grace Owens

First Friday Reception August 4th, 6-9 pm

We are thrilled to welcome Durham-based artist Jordan Grace Owens to the shop for her second solo show in Raleigh. We love her playful minimalist style and the texture created by her medium of choice, ink on paper.

In this collection of drawings, Jordan explores bodies and shapes, both figurative and abstract. Linear figures bend into shapes, echoing blobby abstractions of body parts.

A compilation of ink and gouache drawings made over the course of a year, Body Shapes is also an exploration of textures, materials, and organic lines. The artist expresses a graphic sensibility while embracing the organic marks of her human hand.

Jordan lives in Durham where she works as an artist and illustrator. She is best known for her minimalist portraits and movable paper dolls. Her illustrations have appeared nationally in newspapers, magazines, television, and books. You can find more of her work at www.jordangrace.com.

Jordan's work will be up and available for purchase through the end of the August.

About The Artist

Grey Goods Studio, a textile & surface design studio based out of Durham, NC, was launched in early 2017 by fiber artist, Brooke Heuts and her partner, Braedyn Mallard. They both share a love of art + design and making the world a better (and hopefully more beautiful) place. The term Grey Goods refers to fabric in its “loomstate,” or fabric before it has been dyed, marked or finished. The hand designed textiles Brooke creates are inspired by the power and beauty of the first mark on an unmarked surface and preserving this mark-making is a key part of her artistic process. Brooke begins with experimentation and mark-making using various techniques including screen-printing, dyeing, painting and collage. Through a process of layering, adding and subtracting - she creates repetitions and patterns to preserve these marks.
