let's get cozy

You gotta love the concept of Hygge - a Danish word for a warm, cozy, and relaxing atmosphere. More specifically, the warm and cozy feeling you create for yourself, your loved ones, and to share in the company of friends during winter time. We have all the cozy essentials: candle sticks, tea lights, candle holders, blankets, linen bedsheets, incense, porcelain mugs, and more in-store.

January 2017 First Friday

Join us for the first First Friday of the year with Margaret Eleanor Maloney and her striking works on canvas. Your choice of wine or hot cocoa to toast the artist's first show in Raleigh!

Uncommonly Sane, by Margaret Eleanor Maloney

Friday January 6, 2017

First Friday Reception: 6 to 9pm, on view through January 31
The subjects in this collection are placed on the canvases unassisted from their surroundings as a way to rest in the moment of an otherwise fleeting experience. Moving a paintbrush across a canvas is how Maloney mindfully appreciates singular moments, gestures, or feelings captured in time.

December First Friday

As we wind up to wind down this season, James Tupper's video art installation is a calming and beautiful reminder of the pace of the natural world, no matter how complex that world may be. Very excited to have his talent projected on our wall!

Saturday November 26, Come out and ...

This time last year I was on pins and needles waiting to move into our space and open the store. Needless to say, I'm really excited to participate in our first #ShopSmall Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is all about supporting your neighborhood shops while kicking off your holiday shopping. With the craziness of Black Friday promotions, I love that Saturday is all about the small, independently owned and operated shops that give our communities so much flavor. We love what we do and we love our communities - that's why we're here!
I look forward to seeing you Saturday, November 26 during our special hours 8am-8pm. Thank you for Shopping Small!

Modern furniture, made in Raleigh!

Seriously functional furniture for beautiful balanced living. That's what Flitch Furniture is all about and I couldn't more excited to be a part of their launch. Locally made in Raleigh using wood sourced from the Appalachian Mountains, these designs are fresh, modern, yet deeply rooted in the North Carolina tradition of timeless craftsmanship.

The craftsmen behind Flitch Furniture are veteran cabinetry makers so you can bet that their attention to functional detail is all over this debut collection. Bed frames that create additional functional surface areas, benches that can double as coffee tables, and modular units that give you the freedom to create what you want and need now, and later.

Collection pieces are available in white or maple; mix and match, make them completely your own. No matter what combination you create, the sense of balance and harmony is ever present.

Port of Raleigh is proud to be the exclusive showroom for Flitch Furniture

First Friday Artist: Jordan Dale Young

Pareidolia Solo Show by Jordan Dale Young
First Friday  |  August 5, 2016  |  6pm - 9pm

Colors, shapes, cool vibes - this new series by digital artist Jordan Dale Young has me crazy excited. Come see why during this month's First Friday and meet the man behind the figures. Young's show will be on view and available for purchase through October 2.

About the artist:

Jordan Dale Young is a digital artist from the Midwest, living in Raleigh, NC. In addition to being an artist, he is also a graphic designer and web developer. Drawing from these disciplines, the mental processes behind minimalism, language, and measurement combine to inform his geometric illustrative style. He abstracts organic subjects, revealing their simple shapes and colors. No matter the complexity of any image, it can always be broken down into those simple elements.

HAY tray table inspiration

The Instagram Rabbit Hole is a real thing but I'm glad that it lead me to these real-life photos of the HAY Tray Table series in people's homes. Sharing pieces with you all via the sales floor is one happiness but another is imagining (and often seeing because you share photos with me!) how your shop purchases fit into your happy home.

These coffee and side Tray Tables, available in the shop, are a favorite for their simplicity and casual-cool polish. The minimalist table base allows for a spacious physical and visual feel while the solid powder-coated steel tray top serves its functional role with added side-edge support. Use a single Tray Table or pair two or three of varying sizes for a larger area. Simply perfect.
